Day 4 | Persecution

Submitted By, Deacon Gloria S Reddick

Blessed to be persecuted.  Blessed am I when others revile me and persecute me and utter all kinds of evil against me falsely on God’s account. I will rejoice and be glad, for my reward will be great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before.

Persecution can be good because (1) it takes my eyes off earthly rewards (2) It strips away superficial beliefs (3) It strengthens the faith of those that endure and (4) my attitude through it serves as an example to others who follow.  I can be comforted to know that God’s greatest prophets were persecuted.  The fact that we’re being persecuted proves that we/I have been faithful.  Faithless people would be unnoticed. In the future, God will reward the faithful by receiving us into His eternal kingdom where there is no more persecution.

Lenten Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Your Son to sacrifice Himself for my sake.  You are so faithful to me.  Help me to seek Your strength as I strive to be loyal to You above all others.   When I face trials, please help me follow Jesus’ example, and remind me of those faithful  Christians throughout history who have suffered for Your sake.  Lord, give me the strength and peace to rejoice in You, no matter what my circumstances may be, Amen!
